| Tom Scheve President of EquiSpirit Neva
Kittrel Scheve
Tom and Neva have shown continued concern for safety in horse trailering ever since they entered the retail horse trailer business in 1983. In 1988, Tom and Neva began designing horse trailers for safety and toughness and have designed trailers for manufacturers such as Merhow, Trail-et, McQuerry, and their own lines: EquiSport, ThoroSport, and EquiSpirit. In 1996, Mike Plumb's horse journal chose their trailer as the number one choice in safety and construction. Neva, along with Tom who researched and developed the projects, has authored three books on horse trailers: Hawkins Guide: Horse Trailering On The Road, Equine Emergencies On The Road with Jim Hamilton DVM, and Neva's latest book, The Complete Guide To Buying, Maintaining, and Servicing a Horse Trailer, which is published by Howell Publishing and is the only complete text book on horse trailers. In addition, they regularly contribute articles to numerous horse magazines, including:
Neva has been involved with horses for 30 years. She competes in dressage and carriage driving and has also been involved in the western and hunter disciplines. Besides writing, she gives horse trailer clinics across the country at such events as Equitana, Equine Affair, National Pony Club Annual meeting, and Pony Club Festival, and along with her husband Tom has written articles in many national magazines such as Practical Horseman, Horse and Rider, HorsePlay and others.
Neva is also a member and co-developer of the Moore County, NC Equine Emergency Response Unit which has developed one of the few county-wide plans in the country and, with her husband Tom, helped develop an equine ambulance which is available for use in horse rescue in North Carolina. She has also served on the Veterinary Medical Assistance team (VMAT), which is affiliated with AVMA and FEMA, and she was part of the search and rescue team sent to Eastern North Carolina during the 1999 flood. It is this enduring concern for the well-being and welfare of horses that has been the driving force behind EquiSpirit. When you purchase an EquiSpirit, you are not just owning a horse trailer, you are taking possession of a product solely designed for the safety of your horses.
