Neva Kittrell Scheve – Author, Horse Trailer Consultant, Horsewoman, Instructor from Southern Pines, NC. Neva Kittrell Scheve, along with husband Tom, has been involved in the horse trailer business since 1983. Not satisfied with the horse trailers that were being built when they started their dealership, the Scheves developed several lines of horse trailers that emphasize stress free hauling for the horse with a specific focus on safety.

Through the years and many different models later, they have evolved their trailer design into the present product, the EquiSpirit, a horse trailer built from the horse’s point of view.
Realizing there was little information available to educate equine enthusiasts about horse trailering, Neva wrote the Hawkins Guide: Horse Trailering on the Road and the Hawkins Guide: Equine Emergencies on the Road, which was co-authored by James Hamilton, DVM. Both books were published by BlueGreen Publishing Co. The third book, The Complete Guide to Buying, Maintaining, and Servicing a Horse Trailer by Neva Kittrell Scheve, is published by Howell Equestrian Library.

Neva has been involved with horses for 30 years and competes in dressage and carriage driving, and has also been involved in the western and hunter disciplines. Besides writing, she gives horse trailer seminars at such events as Equitana USA, Equine Affair, the national Pony Club Annual meeting, and Pony Club Festival.

Neva also is a member of the Moore County Equine Emergency Response Unit and the Veterinary Medical Assistance Team (VMAT), which is affiliated with the AVMA and FEMA, and was recently involved in search and rescue during the October, 1999 flood in Eastern North Carolina.
